Baptism is a beautiful thing. It is an ancient tradition practiced by the apostles and the first church. Jesus was baptized as an example for us, and we are excited at Essential Church to continue this 2,000 year old practice for Christ followers. We know that there are many questions related to baptism. We encourage you to check out the Frequently Asked Questions about baptism. Why Baptism is Essential
1. We follow Jesus’ example:
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:13-17
2. We follow Jesus’ command:
“Jesus said, ‘Go then, to all the people everywhere and make them disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you” Matthew 28:19
3. We want to show others what Christ has done:
“…those who believed..were baptized and added to the church” (Acts 2:41).

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I be baptized?
Baptism is Biblical. Throughout the New Testament you find this powerful symbol practiced by those who began the journey of following Christ. It is a sign of your relationship with Christ and a symbol of the power found through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
2. Is baptism necessary for salvation?
No- It is a symbol, a picture of what Christ has done on your behalf. If you had to be baptized to be saved, than salvation would no long be by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
3. Why should I be baptized by immersion?
At Essential Church, we baptize by immersion because it is the clear method used in the Bible.
4. What about infant baptism?
Many individuals have been baptized as an infant. We celebrate their parent’s desire to place them in the path toward a relationship with God. We believe do not practice infant baptism because we believe that in order to fully follow Christ’s example, believers must be baptized after they have decided to follow Christ.
5. When should I be baptized?
We will have regular opportunities for baptism. If you would like to be notified when our next baptism service will be, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
